OT Access Denied on Network Printers

Thank you to Paul and Norm for your feedback. For some reason the
network thought that the print server was offline even though it
could print test pages to the printers. We had another server running
Active Directory and I think it was running the network. When I
brought the other server down, the print server started functioning
properly - we could print! Thank you again for your ideas!

Sincerely,

This AM we had the motherboard replaced on our primary domain
controller which also serves as our print server (we are a windows2k
environment but my teminology may be a little off). The network
printers were working after the repair then they stopped working. On
Windows XP workstations the printers show as "Access Denied, unable
to connect". If I try to look at properties, from a workstation, I
get the message "Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print
spooler service is not running". I am able to print test pages to the
printers from the print server, however, users cannot print. I
confirmed that the Print Spooler and TCP/IP Printing services are
running on the print server. My network guy is out of the office
until tomorrow AM and is unreachable. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

It sounds like a permissions problem with the printer share. Check to make
sure the users have access to the printer. Should be a permissions tab or
button somewhere. You probably have a group setup in active directory for
all these users and can give that group the ability to print. Otherwise you
will have to add them all individually. I guess make sure the "users" group
has access then try again.

I had a similar problem (W2000 server)- network printer just became
unavailable to users. Had to add a new port for the printer. Look at
printer properties for printer and there should be a "Port" tab. Select add
a new port and basically duplicate the settings for the existing port
configuration - giving it a new name.
