We have used both Maxell and Quantum in both 20/40 GB and 110/220 GB and I
have never had a bad tape or any problems.

I have been using TDK Tapes (I have 4mm dat tapes) and have seen no
problems with them at all
I use my tapes for a 3 - 4 month period then replace them

I've been purchasing all of my backup tapes on Ebay. I can normally get
new/sealed Fuji DLT IV's for about $30.00 each. They are $65.00 from CDW.

I use Maxell's DLT III (15/30gb) tapes and have had two failures in five years.
For my DLT IV (40/80gb) drive, I have a mix of Maxell & Compaq. Maxell has
failed once in two years and Compaq has not failed (yet).

Really depends on what type of tape drive you have. What does the
manufacturer recommend?

We're a pretty small operation here with modest backup needs, and still use
a couple 5GB Exabyte 8mm drives. The Exabyte tapes are dirt cheap
($3.99/ea) and reliable.

When I was buying DDS-3 tapes at my former gig, I was partial to Fuji and
TDK. About 21 years ago, I had some Maxell 5" floppies disintegrate on me,
and have not forgiven them since ;)

I’m using ADR (50 Gig) not cheap. $85.00 a pop. But they’re good for
2 years +
