We're using Predator also. We had quite a few problems with it at first but
we made the choice to install and configure it ourselves. BIG mistake. I
highly recommend that for any DNC system you have somebody knowledgeable
with the software and CNC controls to come in and set it up for you. It
will cost more up front but save lots of headaches in the long run. Now
that we have everything set up correctly, it is very stable and reliable.
I prefer Predator over the others because it uses (or used to anyway)
standard Digi hardware. The server has an RS422 card which links to hubs on
the shop floor. The hubs then have 8 or 16 RS232 ports that go to each
machine. This allowed us to place the hubs over concentrations of machines
and have minimum length to our RS232 drops. It is my understanding that the
Rocket boards most use now need to be installed at a PC and it is home runs
of RS232 back to the server from each machine. For us that setup would mean
one server in the office and at least two if not three PCs on the shop
floor.
