Hardware Environment:
Homogeneous Cisco routers and switches comprise Sabre's network
infrastructure. All Cisco products are protected with Cisco SmartNet
Agreements to ensure full product support and rapid incident resolution.
Sabre's network spans ten sites in eight states. A private, highly reliable
Sprint MPLS network provides wide area network connectivity to six of these
sites, the remainder use internet-based virtual private networks. Cisco's
Secure Mobility VPN Client allows employees to securely access network
resources from any location in the world. Hewlett-Packard is the primary
manufacturer of Sabre's 56 network file servers. NetApp devices are used for
Storage Area Networking. For workstations, of which Sabre has approximately
650, only enterprise-class product lines are used; HP and Dell being the
primary providers. A variety of cell phones and mobile devices are
supported. IT also maintains eight phone systems: two new Cisco systems,
five Mitel PBX's, and one legacy Avaya system.
Software Environment:
Microsoft Windows Server is the only file server platform in use at Sabre,
with all new server deployments being either Windows Server 2008 Data Center
Edition or Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. Microsoft Hyper-V is used
for all virtual server needs. A variety of additional Microsoft server
products are used throughout the enterprise including SQL, IIS, DHCP, DNS,
and DPM. Email is hosted externally on Microsoft's O365 cloud-based
Exchange environment which includes full-featured SharePoint capabilities
for every mailbox. Workstation operating systems are a 60-40 mix of Windows
XP Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise. A new Microsoft EA agreement
allows Sabre to upgrade all workstations to Windows 7 Enterprise, Office
2010 Professional, and Microsoft Lync 2010; additionally, these products may
be upgraded to new releases each year through the spring of 2015. Sabre's
ERP application is Epicor Vantage 8x, with Epicor Vantage version 9x
expected to be implemented spring 2013. Microsoft's new cloud-based Intune
service is used to inventory, update, and secure all workstations across the
enterprise.
