OT (internet connection T1 vs.. wireless)

Todd,

The proposal I have is through McLeod for a bundled fraction T1 product. I
believe the data channels are quoted at $168.00 /mo.

Thanks

Dan,

768K ? ... 1/2 of a T-1 ?

I've been quoted #'s of around $ 600 for a full dedicated T-1 connection.

As far as T-1 circuits ... I have 5 of them coming in here for - 1 = ISDN
Prime, 1 = Dedicated LD, 3 = Point to Point for remote facilities.

Bottom line ... except for farmers with back hoes ... T-1 circuits tend to
be extremely reliable.

We need to replace our WorldCom wireless internet connection by the end of
September. I am considering either a 640k burstable wireless connection, or
a 768k T1 connection. Are there any reliability issue I should be concerned
about with T1? I have been running the wireless connection for 2 + years now
and it has been rock solid.

Thanks

We've had a T1 running at 512K (burstable to 1.5M) for a couple years now from Lighthouse Communications (out of Des Moines but they have a good sized Twin Cities office). Excellent performance and reliability at our Woodbury location. Biggest worry has always been Qwest for the last mile but Lighthouse seems to have a good relation with them and monitors things closely. They've also been excellent about proactive maintenance and lots of advance notice if there will be down time (rare) for upgrades. When we want to up our speed (considering it) all I have to do is call them (and pay a little more for higher rate). We can eventually use the whole pipe without physically changing anything. Check out www.lh.net .

Dan,

Also running 512K T1 burstable to 1.5M. Generally good, if the ISP gives
you the speed you're paying for, and the telco gives you a good transmission
line. I've had both problems. Once fixed, it's great. But I wore my right
boot out to get it that way.
