OT NT4 and W2K vampire user licenses

Go on to your PDC control panel/services/licensing and change per seat
to per server, and you'll never have this problem again.

Hi:

My domain licensing is per seat. When I go in to my domain controller
(an
NT machine) to licensing services, every client who was ever installed
on
the server as a user is listed, and sucks up a license. These users
have
been deleted LONG AGO, but they keep cropping back up in the licensing
manager. You can't kill them!!! Is there any way to get these names off
of
my licensing? I know there was some discussion about this a long while
back, but don't know if there was ever an answer.

Now, I've added a W2K member server, same thing, here are those "undead"
users, taking up space again. (Gosh, I have a horror movie thing going
on
today)!

Thanks in advance.

Lydia,

I ran into this about 3 years ago and spent time on the phone with MS Tech
Support trying to resolve the issue.

I was able to reset all counters to zero but it was a pain in the ... which
MS Tech Support agreed with.

Rather then fight the errors in the licensing program I simply entered my
"Legal" licenses with PO-#'s in the comment fields and then added 1000 users
with something like "Virtual-License" in the comment field. If I ever get
audited I'll let MS try to explain why their licensing program considers
long gone employees "Valid".

I wouldn't waste your time over this ...
