I've never had trouble with the PCs. I wouldn't touch the servers with a
ten foot pole.
They tend to use cheap ram and disk controllers...assuming they have a
dedicated raid controller at all. I see stability issues with probably 30%
of them when they're under a decent load. The controllers don't always
handle disk failures in a graceful manner. On more than one occasion I've
seen them waste an array during something as routine as replacing a failed
disk in a mirror. I might use one for a testing environment or something
non-critical, but even then I avoid them when possible. Most of this holds
true for any of the white-box server manufacturers.
In my experience it's always cheaper to stick with HP, Dell, or one of the
other reputable brands.
