I use LANAuditor from time to time. It requires distributing a small
executable to each client which reports the locally installed programs to a
central database from which you can mine a boat load of information. It is
pretty customizable. More info can be found at www.lanauditor.com

There was a thread about this last week, but I'm currently evaluating two
packages: Centennial Asset Navigator and another one just called
A-Navigator (at a-navigator.com). Centennial will send you an eval CD.
Pricing $24 per seat + maintenance (of course) to $395 for a complete
package w/100 seats. There are also a few "freeware" and "shareware", but
I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop with those guys.
