[OT] VPN connection with a Linksys wireless router

Hmmm... I thought you had a firewall/proxy in between... In that case; I
have done that before as well, and had problems with that set up too. After
a week of putzing around with the set up, I figured out that the DSL
provider (Qwest) was handing out third-world-type-no-good-for-nothing
Actiontec modems. When I used my own Cisco 678, things started working like
magic. (In addition to the bad modems Qwest also screwed up the routing to
our dedicated IP addresses...)

You mean plug the cable modem into one of the RJ-45 plugs?

On the back of that router there should be a RJ-45 port labeled "Internet
Access" slightly away from the other ports. Don't use it, rather use one of
the remaining ports to plug it into your network...

Ok, I'll try the DHCP setting change. I'm not sure what you mean by "not
using the internet port" I've checked the firmware. Finally, I'd try the
whip to get the whinning in line but I don't know where to get one...any
suggestions :-)

Thx for the ideas

You know, I just saw a news article the other day about how many actually do
have a higher threshold for pain then woman do. Of course the author said
that he wasn't going to bring that up any where around his wife ...

Actually you can probably explain something to me. What is it about
Mother-in-laws and Daughter-in-laws? Always seems to be a bit of cat fight
going on ...

Subject: [Vantage] [OT] VPN connection with a Linksys wireless router

Ok...first I'm convinced that tech support company's hire anyone who can
type regardless of their ability...TCP what?, Huh?

**phew** feel better...

I hooked up a laptop via a Linksys wireless PCMCIA Card, and my desktop
via the Ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless Cable/DSL router. The
system with the Ethernet cable runs fine and connects to the Checkpoint
Secure remote server fine. The wireless doesn't. Anyone have
experience with this? I still checking the net and have some long shot
suggestions but I thought I'd try here first. It is for my wife's
connection to her company and I really don't want to listen to
anymore..."Hey you're a computer guy, figure it out...PLEASE!!!". The
incessant whining is driving me nuts.

Thx everyone

1) Make sure the wireless router isn't trying to act as the DHCP server...
2) Do not use the internet port on that type of router. Rather plug it in
as a plain old router behind any proxy or firewall
3) One of the listmember might be able to lend you a whip. That should take
care of the last part of your problem ;)

HTH,

Paul

Ok, I'll try the DHCP setting change. I'm not sure what you mean by "not

On the back of that router there should be a RJ-45 port labeled "Internet
Access" slightly away from the other ports. Don't use it, rather use one of
the remaining ports to plug it into your network...
