[OT] Windows XP UPgrade - Quick Question

It will work OK, but you will be prompted to put in a 9x, NT or 2K CD in
order to verify that you have a previous OS. It worked best for me to
format the drive first, then start the install with a clean drive.

OK, just when I think I've got RB dialed in it tosses me a stumper.

Very simple little report to total labor hours by employee within two operation codes. Std. Packing & Special Packing. Total hrs printed at Employee footer and at Operation footer. No problems there. But when I try to add a top level sort on the Employee total to sort employees descending by hours (emp with most to emp with least) it produces a "Sort and Groups out of synch" error. But I have dozens of other reports doing exactly the same thing (so I think anyway). I've checked many of them and they really look the same

Sort Group
------- ---------
EmpHrs (D) Oper
Oper (A) EmpNum
EmpNum (A)

where EmpHrs is a pre-pass aggregate total on LaborDetail:LaborHrs reset at EmpNum.

Any clues as to why some reports allow presenting the employee records in sorted order and this report? Also, right after getting the error when trying to run the report the RB window blanks out and Win2K pops up a "not responding" message and I have to end task RB. Hmmmm...perhaps related to the other question about changing libraries and needs a patch?

Thanks,

Are you prepassing aggregates on both the Operation and employee group
levels?

Yes, both are pre-pass. I have also tried making a calculated field out of the Emp total and sorting on that without any luck there either. I think the next thing I will try is going to a Win-98 PC and trying to run it there just to eliminate something in Win2K. I think this is the 1st totally from scratch sort on a group total I've written since going to Win2K at my desk. No idea why it would make a difference though.

Try removing the prepass on the operation level since your only need to
prepass the employee total because that's the one your doing your descending
sort on.

Already tried that too, thanks. But on a hunch and since it is only two op codes I took out the total and group on oper and made it a summary instead and changed filter to only select one code. So now just group by Emp and sort descending on Emp total hrs. Bang! It works. But I still would have liked it to have both Op codes in one report. I may try backing the Oper sort/group back into now working one-level report. Maybe that's how I got the other ones to avoid the sort/group out of synch message.

For anyone who has purchased the retail copy of Windows XP upgrade, do you
know if the upgrade can be installed on a blank hard drive? I have a
machine with an OEM copy of ME installed that just died. If I am going to
format and reinstall I want to do it with a better OS. I figure the upgrade
is cheaper than the full version but I don't want to install ME just to
upgrade to XP. Anyone know? Thanks

Can't say about XP, but retail copy W2K upgrade will install on a blank
drive -- it will require you to place your CD from the OS your are upgrading
from into the drive to verify that you actually have an upgradable OS. This
takes just a few moments, then you are prompted to replace the upgrade CD
back in to continue. No big deal.
