First question:
If you have a job for a STOCK part and the part consist of a few sub-assemblies, how would you handle making an overrun of the sub-assemblies? How would you get them back into inventory in the middle of the job so the overrun does not have to go through the whole job process?

[Gil Amilbangsa] You can use the auto-receive feature or receive manually to inventory if the assembly is a part master item. If the assembly BOM has the last operation ticked as auto-receive to inventory, any over-runs for the job will be posted to inventory automatically. Otherwise, you can receive the sub-assembly to inventory using the Receipts from Manufacturing screen. Vantage help explains this in more detail.

Second question:
We have a situation were we have a large bar stock. The first operation of a job requires 10 pieces cut from this bar stock. Instead of putting the remaining bar stock back on the shelf, they decide to cut the rest of the stock yielding 15 pieces. The bar stock has only one part number associated with it. How could we handle the overrun? It's not really bar stock anymore because it's been cut. Do we need to create a new part number for these pieces and make this operation a separate job? How could we get those pieces to show up in inventory so we know we have them.

[Gil Amilbangsa] Similar situation as above. You need to add the cut bar in the Part Master and add it as a sub-assembly in the parent part BOM. You can then receive any excess to inventory. No need to create a separate job for it. The next time you raise an order for the parent part, check the cut bar sub-assembly in the Job BOM. The available stock qty will be displayed. You then have the option to pull from invenotry or make new cut bars direct to the job.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Jasper

Good Morning all,

Hi Jasper,

(Disclaimer: We are on 6.0 and I know there aren't too many others that are
yet, and my mind is a bit fuzzy on how things used to be vs. how they are
now. I've noted in my instructions where I think there may be a difference.)

<First question: Part ONE: If you have a job for a STOCK part and the partconsist of a few sub-assemblies, how would you handle making an overrun ofthe sub-assemblies?>

If you want to make an intentional overrun on a subassembly level:
*Create the job and pull the details
*open the correct subassembly line maintenance
*somewhere on the screen there should be a field to enter the number of
overrun parts you want to run

<First question: Part TWO: How would you get them back into inventory in themiddle of the job so the overrun does not have to go through the whole jobprocess?>

To receive overrun parts from a subassembly into stock, go to:
*Materials Management/Inventory Management/Receipts from Manufacturing
*Select the correct job number
*Receive to Inventory
*The first pull-down field on the screen allows you to select the correct
assembly level of the part you wish to receive to stock
*Fill out the rest of the information as required

<Other helpful things you may need for these transactions...>

To adjust a job to use the overrun parts (pull parts from stock to fulfill
part of your requirements, and make the rest on the job):
*Create the job and pull the details
*Open the subassembly line maintenance
*Somewhere on the screen there should be a place to enter the amount to pull
from stock, then Vantage will automatically adjust the manufactured
subassembly qty to account for the reduced requirement

To issue the subassembly parts to the subassembly level of the job (I think
the last screen in the path is a bit different depending on which version of
Vantage you are on), Go to :
*Materials Management/Inventory Management/Inventory Issues/Issue Assembly
(this is in 6.0--I can't remember when the last selection screen changed to
Material/Assembly/Miscellaneous Issues or Returns. I'm thinking it was
5.2--it might be Issue Material on your version)
*find the job and select the appropriate assembly level
*then fill out the remaining details

<For your second question: How could we handle the overrun? It's not reallybar stock anymore because it's been cut. Do we need to create a new partnumber for these pieces and make this operation a separate job? How couldwe get those pieces to show up in inventory so we know we have them.>

Because your barstock is only associated to one part number, I would pull
another part number for your cut barstock, but make it a subassembly of your
one part number rather than a separate job. This will save the inventory
transaction if they don't overrun, but allow you to receive, issue and track
inventory at that cut barstock level if needed.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
