We are a high volume make to order shop. We are going to put our
paints & adhesives (we have a lot) on the BOM so that we can buy per
demand and not fall on our faces when an assembly order hits needing a
custom paint. We can't rely on min/max because these products expire,
and demand fluctuates.
Purchasing buys these types of materials in different container sizes
(paints: pints/quarts/ gallons)( adhesives: different cartrige sizes),
prices vary by container size, and the supplier has different part
numbers for the different container sizes.
I want one part number on the BOM for a type of Paint or Adhesive,
then Purchasing can buy container sizes of that material from the
supplier, based on demand volume, and shop preference.
Here is my question: How does purchasing keep straight buying different
container sizes, at different prices, referencing different supplier
part numbers?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this,
