Part import Blank Title 69842

Yes Brian, importing BOM's is tricky, and the work-flow is convoluted...

We cheat we just download BOM's from our old system into Excel, and then use
paste/insert into the BOM data grid after the parts are loaded into the
MPF... OK, you have to check that parent part out manually, but it works
fine for us...

Thanks,

Nick

We've used the same set of templates and workflows for data import
with Service Connect. They work very well and I would recommend the
investment if you're planning on importing lots of different kinds of
data. The standard package includes CostQty (standards and inventory
values), CustBillTo, CustCnt (contacts), Customer, Part, PartMtl (BOM),
PartOpr (routings), PartRev, ShipTo, Vendor, and VendorPP (purchase
point).

Creating a ServiceConnect workflow to take a CSV file and call
Part.Update(-) is actually pretty straightforward, and is one of the
textbook examples in the ServiceConnect training (which I thought was
quite good). So if you really only need to add Parts, you could do that
yourself. But if you also need to import BOMs I would seriously
consider investing in the template package as that workflow is decidedly
more complex.

And as Nick points out, developing against the Web Services API that
Service Connect uses is very much a matter of trial and error.

Did you have to purchase the standard template?

Hello,

V8.03
I know that if I want to import parts there is payable solution from Epicor and do it by my self.
Has anyone done part import yourself? What solution did you used? Import data to Progress database through MS SQL or directly to Progress? Also IÂ heard that is possible to this with Service connect, had anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes, we use ServiceConnect all the time, and importing parts is no great
problem...

Epicor provide a standard template to do this, or, when you start learning
how to write ServiceConnect routines, you can begin writing your own...

ServiceConnect is a powerful tool, but there is a steep and frustrating
learning curve due to poor documentation...

We don't use any other method for data imports...

I hope this helps...

Thanks,

Nick

It is also possible using VB.Net and accessing the business objects
directly.

No, you get a few basic templates when you buy ServiceConnect Steve...

You will get one for each ServiceConnect routine that Epicor give you as
Standard.

Its not many and they are mainly associated with data take-on.

Thanks,

Nick
