I need to uncheck the Phantom BOM box. Part has a BOM and is a
subassembly for other parts. The screen where Phantom BOM is located
has a check and the box is grayed out so I am unable to uncheck it.
Also the Non-Stock item box is also checked but grayed out so I
can't uncheck it either. I am using Vantage 6.1

Thanks

Hi, we just upgraded to 5.0 a couple of weeks ago and I am noticing
some weird things going on in the part master. We generally do not
use it cause it only causes problems but now I am noticing that when
I enter a material requirement into job entry it creates that as a
part. Then if I got to enter that same part it will automatically
pull the description and price from the last time. This is causing
problems by pulling the wrong info on our template. Does anyone know
anything about this and how I can keep Vantage from automatically
entering the part in the master list? Any help would be greatly
appreciated as this is a huge problem for us.
Thanks
Is there a way to populate the Part Master using an excel spreadsheet? Any sort of custom program? We have about a thousand new parts we need to add. What are our options? I have worked with systems that allow you to do a transaction import into any table. Does vantage or progress have this capability?

Thanks,

Jasper

There is a BOM Import/Export utillity available from custom programming that will use a CSV (as from spreadsheet) file for input. Basically the CSV file is all the PartBOM record fields and the utility validates the data and safely populates the proper tables. I think is is a couple grand to purchase. We are in the process of considering using it to import parts from our custom quoting system but have not tried it yet. Contact your CAM for more (and better) info, they can email a document describing how it works.

I have used the part master import utility from Epicor in the past without
problem. Both to load the data initially and to edit it when we make mass
changes to MPR information. I didn't have a problem with the utility. BUT,
the potential to really screw things up is very high. Backup your data as
you go if you try this.

Yes it works.
we imported 3500 records from an HP-UX system. The records were
comma
delimited and had to be in a specific format, but it went fine. Certain
tables
had to be populated before exporting to the part table, Warehse, PartClass,
PartGroup,
...its all spelled out in the supporting documents.

If you don't find what you need let me know. I have Winbatch scripts that I
used to load about 10,000 part master files. It worked well but it takes a
few hours to run and you have to do it in stages. The upside is that there
is no chance of corruption because the script is just sending keystrokes and
copying and pasting the text into Vantage and its free.

We used both part master and bom import utilities when we migrated to
Vantage and they both worked fine.

We are using Master File Import/Export for six years. I think we paid about $2,500 in 1997. I have imported more than 250,00 parts
thousands of price breaks, Bill to Customers, Ship To Customers, Primary Bins and so on without any problems. First I would export a
file and learn the format then create the Import file.
Hope this helps, if you have more questions you can contact me offline.

We are using Master File Import/Export for six years. I think we paid about
$2,500 in 1997. I have imported more than 250,00 parts
thousands of price breaks, Bill to Customers, Ship To Customers, Primary
Bins and so on without any problems. First I would export a
file and learn the format then create the Import file.
Hope this helps, if you have more questions you can contact me offline.

We get the new version of the utility every time we upgrade. Since Vantage needs to be customized before we could use the upgrade, I
ma not sure if the cost of customization includes the Master Import/Export Utility. I'll find out and let you know.

Have any of the list gurus attempted a Vantage deployment over OpenAFS. It
looks like and ideal way to maximize performance and guarantee fault
tolerance - though not for the faint of heart to install or configure.

I can config the server on Linux (RH 8 & 9) and Solaris but Win 2k is being
a pain (imagine that). If anyone has any words of wisdom, please let me
know.

Thanks in advance.

This is one of my pet peeves by the way. Every time there is a minor
release (e.g. 5.1 - 5.2) they want cash for the latest version of tools.
These tools should really be provided with the Vantage license

You have my vote on that. I have worked with other manufacturing software and import/export utilities have always been part of the package. It's absurd that Epicor thinks the feature of populating the database is a custom feature.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Thanks
Dan Ernst
