Part Phase out OR Use Up old parts

Troy,

I noticed in Part Maintenance there is a substitute function area, but I
haven't really looked into that, but you may want to check it out.

Also many years ago (25) we had a system that wouldn't allow us to "use up"
out going product before starting to use the new. We changed the
description to "use Part B". Everyone in the organization knew if that
description appeared and there was no stock, the issue Part B.

Subject: [Vantage] Part Phase out OR Use Up old parts

1. Does anyone know of a way in Vantage to handle the following situation?
Our old system, "Growth Power" had a feature that we sorely miss. GP called
it "Use up" codes.

What this feature does is allow you to 'use up' Part A until it is gone, and
then begin using Part B from that point on. Part A is the part the Bill of
Material used to call for, and then the BOM is changed to call for Part B
instead. If it's OK with the customer, we would like to use up Part A
quantities that we have in inventory before moving to Part B. Many times it
might be a simple color change on a connector or other cosmetic feature that
is still functionally sound.

Vantage has an 'effectivity date' on BOM changes that looks like a
watered-down version of the above feature. However, you have to guess what
date you might use up Part A.
2. Does anyone have a better method of using the 'effectivity date' in
Vantage?

3. When you change a BOM and set the effectivity date for some day in the
future, will current open Jobs begin calling for the old part still or the
new part. In other words, will the change only effect new Jobs that are
opened after that point, or current ones a well?

Thanks for any insights.
