Partially OT - Sage Depreciation 2018.1 and Epicor Crystal Runtime conflict

We recently upgraded our Sage Depreciation package to 2018.1 and first it broke the Epicor CR. I reinstalled CR for Epicor and now the Sage CR will not print. It throws an error - Unable to cast COM object… when attempting to print in Sage. All other functions of Sage are fine. Sage suggests we put it on a different PC without Epicor. Epicor says to contact consulting. (We are live on 9.05 and testing 10.2)

I was just wondering if anyone else has run into this and found a solution.

Thanks,

Doug

Doug,

Were you able to resolve the issue? We just purchased the same package.I submitted a case to Sage and this is the response.

The two products are unable to generate reports when installed on same machine. Install Sage Fixed Assets onto a separate machine (VM is possible).

Crystal workaround: Starting with SAP ® Crystal Reports runtimes SP21 (13.0.21) and higher, it is possible to create a .exe.config. This has the effect of redirecting the program to use older Crystal libraries contained in the SAP ® Crystal Reports runtimes SP21.
Contact the 3rd party application vendor support about the .exe.config file option.

I’m not creating a new VM

Thanks

Mel

I chose the first option. I spun up a new VM and installed Sage on there.

I was unaware of the Crystal workaround at the time.

The VM option also gives us the flexibility for multiple people to log on and access Sage.

We had this too. We ended up buying a different assets software cause sage was overpriced.

Do you mind sharing which one?

Did you ever run Sage and found the upgrade/maintenance too expensive?

I would like to hear from anyone using Epicor’s solution for assets. Good/Bad?

Epicor’s solution is good too, we just had to buy it for each company and it became expensive.

Doug,

FYI … I was able to get Sage FAS and Epicor to work on the same system.

How to do a clean install

Cause

One or more Crystal Reports .NET components did not register correctly during the installation from the Sage Fixed assets client.

Issues during installation can cause errors including:

  • Retrieving the COM class Factory for component with CLSID {168B004A-CA9C-4824-B132-682934A43B17} failed due to the following error: 800a0030.
  • Retrieving the COM class Factory for component with CLSID {F734A321-8381-4FFD-A614-139E8906DC83} failed due to the following error: 800703e6.
  • Retrieving the COM class Factory for component with CLSID
  • Error: “Method Not Found: " Void Sage.FAS.BACustReports.IFASRptParms.set_RptID(Int32)” when running Depreciation Summary Report.e
  • Error “The Document has not been opened”

Resolution

In the Windows Control Panel:

  1. Uninstall all Sage Fixed Assets products:
  2. Rename the C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Fixed Assets folder and the C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects folder.
  3. Go to Regedit: Ensure the HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432node*Best Software* key is no longer in the registry. If it is present, delete it.
  4. Install the current version of Sage Fixed Assets and try to open Sage Fixed Assets again.

We use Epicor’s Asset Management module. It was fairly simple to set up and it has the ability to pull in assets that you’ve already depreciated in another system and maintain that schedule. It will recalculate the depreciations and might end up +/- a few cents each period based on rounding, but we didn’t have any issues importing our assets from Sage. Having the system tied into Epicor means all the additions, depreciations, etc. hit the GL through a posting process instead of Finance needing to calculate in Sage and then create journals in Epicor.

We use probably 10% of what’s available in the module. It can support a lot of different situations but everything we do is basic additions, depreciations, and disposals. We only use one book, but it can calculate depreciations with different schedules if you need to for tax purposes or other reporting.

The cost per license was reasonable for us being one customer account for Epicor with multiple companies. The cost was reasonable for us compared with other Epicor financial modules, but I don’t know how it compared to what we paid for Sage.
