PCID and Cycle Counting

Good Day!

Anyone out there here using PCIDs and cycle counting?

Seems like there is a lot of good info out there, but it seems from testing and some of the responses that I’m getting back from Epiccare is that PCID does not work with Cycle Counting selections.

Sure you can manually ADD PCIDs to a cycle sequence, but that makes you verify the WHOLE PCID contents rather than the part selected for the sequence.

Unless I’m missing something, I’m understanding if you want to cycle count inventory included in PCIDs that it becomes a process of manual selection which is not ideal.

@Andrewpech

PCIDs work well in cycle count, not so great in full physical inventory. For part selection in cycle count, you cant use ABC codes - at least i couldnt get it working. go to Cycle Count Part/PCID Selection to search for add pcids to your count.

When you generate tags, you have the option of including Nested Items. Enable this if you want a tag for each part in the pcid. you will have to count the pcid and the parts in it.
Disable it if you just want to count the PCID itself and not the contents. This is called a top level tag. These are counted as 1 or 0. it’s either there or its not

Thanks Bryan.

I’ll have to try full physical again because that was the only way I could get the system to SELECT them.

But for our environment, this makes trying to implement a cycle count program rather difficult. Looks like if PART A is selected in the cycle sequence, you’ll only get the inventory outside of any PCIDs. It become a very manual effort to go look to see if PART A is in any PCIDs. Manually add the PCID(s). But with it comes all the other parts that may be contained.

Makes it very hard (if not impossible) to maintain a target of X parts per day. I just don’t understand the logic behind excluding PCID parts when you still have an inventory level, warehouse and BIN to print a tag out for.

In the Cycle Count Part /PCID selection you have a tab for PCID right? we’re on kinetic, not sure what differences we have in versions. Our team is counting by rows or area and using the bins to select the PCIDs.

I had a lot of trouble with blanks tags for PCIDs in full physical inventory. You can create them and use them, but they will not post.
We wrote a series of sql scripts to get the parts into the PCIDs and and post as part of the group.
you’d be better off manually adjusting and using build split merge for anything you need a blank tag for.

Yeah… Counting by rows is something we wanted to try and avoid since we wanted to leverage ABC codes and random part selections. But in the context of using PCIDs it seems unavoidable.

Hi Bryan,
We are working on upgrading from 10.2.500.23 to kinetic 2022 whatever the latest is … We want to count using PCID but want clarification on the blank tags, do you not use them at all because the count will not post, or do you have an alternate process for blank tags?
