Personalization - Who needs it anyway?

So far with us, personalization hasn't been a problem, they've been
able to move things to suit their needs and keeps them happy and
keeps them from griping to me. So unless you have an employee who
prefers to spend time "playing" instead of working, I find this
feature beneficial.

Using personalization, the user has added a couple of fields to the grids at the bottom of the summary screen on the Sales Order Tracker. Every once in a while, when he goes into that program, the tabs are completely missing. Tools --> Reset Layout to Base does not fix the problem.Â
Â
We have no customizations in that program.

Go into Customization mode and delete that user's personalization to see if the standard layout reappears. (It should after they shutdown their vantage client and reopen it.)

Then do yourself a favor and disable user personalization. If these fields are that important, customize the app so they are available to all and control access via your user security rights roles.

Thanks. That helped.Â
Â
So it looks like with Personalizations there's the possibility for some kind of mysterious latency effect where the user's personalizations persist even after choosing Tools->Reset Layouts to Base??
Â
Is it this group's consensus that Personalizations are to be avoided?

Starting with 8.03.4xx, you can also go to System Management | Utilities |
Customization/Personalization Maintenance and delete personalizations or
customizations without going into the command as the user or through the
Customization route.

I was hoping to get more folks to weigh in on Personalization. Do
you recommend not using it? If so why?
