PGSimCity - How PostgreSQL Works

@hkeric.wci am I just imagining things or was epicor changing what DB they are using in tandem with the Linux changeover?

No, but it’s on the roadmap.

Do you know an approximate timeframe for this? Is there a roadmap document you can share or point me to? Thanks.

I have no insider knowledge. I know just about as much as I said in the post lol.

Okay thanks, I feel like so much info comes across all the time I can’t keep it straight.- but I thought I knew I heard it somewhere.

You are supposed to know without knowing. That is the sign of being a master…

There is no trimeframe and as far as I know it isn’t even official official. There are / were talks about it and they are looking into it but there’s zero timeline. Years at this point if it even happens.

Again same as @klincecum no insider knowledge here just what I’ve seen go by over the last few Insights / conversations in dark alleys

Okay cool, I wasn’t sure where I heard it haha, so this tracks…

Good to hear. This was the 2nd post I’ve seen over the past few weeks mentioning a move away from SQL Server. I utilize quite a few SQL Server functions, etc., in BAQs that I’d hate to have to find alternatives for. Hoping I’m well into retirement before that happens. :slight_smile:

This distancing from Microsoft as a partner seems like huge savings on licensing for Epicor. It’s just that we won’t see any of the end-user cost reductions associated with these changes.

But we will experience ALL the pain of the migration. See: Windows > Linux.

:robot: Friendly AI Automation Reminder

Beep boop. This thread has begun drifting from discussing PostgreSQL into general product frustrations. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s totally fair to have opinions about migrations and licensing decisions, but let’s try to keep this thread focused on the technical topic at hand. Objective information, experiences, and questions tend to make these discussions much more useful for everyone who finds them later.

Carry on, humans. :robot::heart:

I provided objective information: Epicor offloaded the costs of migrating from Windows to Linux onto their customers. That’s a fact. This is all part of the same product roadmap whether we can see it or not.

Possible proof that AI isn’t perfect…can’t spell “unhelpful”?

[EDIT - sick minds think alike…]
