We first try to clean up WIP. Where possible, we return parts not yet
consumed on the job back to stores. Thus, all WIP really is parts that
have been partially converted.
Also, we make sure that all parts that are finished have been received
into stores.
We also make sure that any open/completed jobs that should be closed are
closed.
Next comes the fun part. We print Production Detail Reports for all
open jobs. We walk the floor and make sure that we can find in process
parts at all stages of production. For us since much of what we
manufacture are very small parts, we're not doing an exact count but are
looking for counts that fit the "reasonable" category. For example, if
my production detail report shows that 75,000 pieces were completed at
stamping, I'll look for these parts at the current workcenter or at the
next. If I can find bins holding 73,500 that's close enough for me.
Your situation (auditors) may require tighter tolerances so be aware of
this.
Any anomalous findings or significant discrepancies between WIP and what
we find are noted on the Production Detail report and corrections are
made. These marked Production Detail reports then go into the audit
package along with the original count tags.
Hope this helps!
Mike

Subject: [Vantage] Physical Inventory - Counting WIP
Hello,
We have an upcoming physical inventory, part of which will include the
counting of WIP.
Does anyone else count WIP during a physical? If so, how do you do so in
Vantage? There doesn't seem to be any mechanism for this.
Thanks,
Joe Rojas
