Printer Selecting Tray Problems

Colette,

Many HP printer drivers will only show you optional trays to select from if you select the right printer model and optional extras installed. For example, One of our 4000 series printers has an extra 500-sheet paper tray. The printer driver will only allow me to select this tray if I tell it that the printer has an extra 500-sheet paper tray (I selected this under the "Configure" tab of the printer driver properties screen).

Is this any help?

Subject: Printer Selecting Tray problems

Hi Colette,

I approached using a multitray printer in a different way from the beginning. Rather than have users select a tray, and get it wrong as often as they get it right, I did the following for an HP LaserJet 4050 with an extra tray:

- Created a printer on my Terminal Server for the LaserJet, specified Tray no. 2 in the driver, called it "S/O Printer"
- Created a second printer using the same driver, pointing to the same printer, but specifying Tray no. 3, called it "Job Printer"

This way users see a choice of printers with meaningful names to print to, rather than a choice of trays, which cannot be named something meaningful.

Worth a try if you can't get around your tray selection problem?

Andz.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this problem?
We are currently trying to train our users on Vantage 6.1. Hopefully
by mid May we will be going live from 4.0 to 6.1. We have users using
Terminal Services to access Vantage and when they try to print to a HP LJ
4000T, they can not select the tray to print from. If we use the printer
standard trays, it is ok, but for the printers we have added additional
trays (3 & 4) they are not available to select going in through terminal
Services. If they go into Vantage straight without using Terminal
Server
they can see and select trays for the same printer. Support told me to
make sure I have to correct drivers I do and I don't understand why it
will
work without Terminal Services.
