Todd,

We do code 128 fonts directly out of Crystal Reports using Open Source
fonts from:

http://user.it.uu.se/~jan/barfonts/

...and a UFL I slapped together to make it work with Crystal. You can
download the whole thing here with examples and documentation:

http://saberlogic.org/~aellis/SaberLogic_Code_128_UFL.zip

Everything is GPL'ed, so feel free to use it however you see fit.

Take care,
Adam Ellis - SaberLogic

more complete but is also twice the price of two Azalea seats. But
either one is FAR less than what the customers' labeling consultants
were pitching.

it is probably coming. It is widely used by automated material
handling systems to auto-receive and route parts in warehouse or to
mfg lines via scanners on conveyor belts. Code 128 has an internal
checksum that validates the scans making automated systems more
reliable. If your customers are automotive (or similar), retail or
large contract manufacturers you may soon be required to support
custom package labeling for them that includes Code 128 barcodes. We
have resisted but that is getting futile now that customers
representing 25% of our revenue are insisting on it.

A year or two ago I posted about printing Code 128 barcodes from Vantage but there did not seem to be much available. Is anyone now printing this barcode format directly from Vantage data? Code 128 (aka AIG coding) is increasingly being required by our customers for package labeling and the time is coming when we won't get a "variance".

Due to the calculations required for the internal error correction/prevention I can't just do these from Report Builder. I suspect I might have to export data to a CSV file that some PC application picks up and prints. But I would really like to avoid the users manually entering the data for the labels. We had a package suggested to us by one of the consultants that seem to set these labeling requirements then sell "solutions" to vendors but it was about nine grand. We need something a LOT les expensive.

Thanks,

Todd,
I use just the process you refer to of dumping to a CSV. I create the dump
from a BAM and then use the BAM to call a label program (I am using Wasp
right now) and print labels based on the CSV. To the user it is more or
less seamless, but it does take a bit of work to get set up. I would expect
though that you should be able to do it for a lot less than $9k, and still
have something that you can massage as the needs change.
Let me know if you need assistance,

Hello Todd,

I found this on Business Objects site. These are the barcode font vendors
that Crystal supports. Never needed anything other than 3 of 9. inside of
Vantage. I have used a product called Barcode Anything on a stand alone
basis. It has database connectivity that I never explored
Hope it helps.
