Progress Explorer MMC could not create the snap-in

So I know this is old, but I just hunted down how to get past the auto connect using process monitor (sysinternals).

After having a user check off the automatically connect box and getting the mmc error I discovered the settings are in:

C:\Users\administrator.KILROY\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC

I renamed proexp11 and was able to launch 'fresh'

CMR
Trying to use Progress Explorer on several machines (Server 2008 and Windows 7) with no success. All computers run 64-bit, no computers available with 32-bit.

Consistently it launches MMC, but says:
"MMC could not create the snap-in."

I made the registry changes for Microsoft>>Java VM>>"EnableJIT"(0).
Make sure it's 00 00 00 00

And also, sometimes you need to manually create the keys, and sometimes you
need to do it in the Software\Wow6432Node as well.

But also, first make sure you are right clicking and "Run as Administrator"
versus just clicking on the icon to run it.

I was working with an Insite rep the other day and on my 64bit machine he made a shortcut directly to progressworkrdir\bin\proexp.bat and that ran progress explorer without the MMC issue.

I have removed all installs of Java and still the same error.

Do I need to install a specific version of Java?

I tried installing the "msjavx86.exe" in the 3rd Party folder, but it does not install on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.

Looking for other things to try.

Did you by chance check the box to "Connect automatically" at some point
when you first set it up or have you never been able to connect at all?

Checking that box will completely hose it and I have found no way of
recovering.

I would suggest just using the OpenEdge Explorer though, it works ok and if
you need more speed starting or stopping, then you can always script it.

You should be able to create a new item in there with the tools, I will
check an installation I have access to a little later and let you know where
it is.

Alternately, if you can shut everything down, you can manually create it in
the ubroker.properties file in the oe102A\properties folder. But make sure
everything is shutdown and make a backup of the file before you do that.
