Just a quick note for everyone using the Epicor AHA Ideas portal (especially now that they’ve added an approval process before ideas go public).
Let’s be honest, that change didn’t come out of nowhere. I don’t have any insider info, but I’ve seen way too many submissions that basically boil down to:
“FIX YOUR !@#% SOFTWARE”
“MAKE IT BETTER”
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA someone moved my ”
And hey, we’ve all hit that point of frustration. But if we actually want real change, that’s not how to make it happen.
You get more bees with honey.
If you’re submitting an idea, keep this in mind:
- Be constructive, not destructive. You’re far more likely to be heard when you explain the issue clearly than when you rant about it.
- Be specific. What exactly isn’t working? Where’s the pain point? Keep the scope narrow and actionable. If you have multiple concerns, submit multiple ideas. “Fix the UI” is a complaint not an idea.
- Explain the business impact. How is it slowing you down, costing time or money, or adding risk?
- Propose a better way. You don’t need a wireframe, just a direction. Even a rough idea helps the product team understand what you’re after.
We all want Epicor to get better, but “burn it all down” doesn’t make the roadmap. Thoughtful, focused feedback does. And yeah, you might not get your idea implemented, and that’s okay too. Epicor serves a lot of industries, and what’s broken for you might be a feature for someone else.
I’ve been in the Epicor world long enough to watch the software evolve from V8 to Kinetic. It’s not perfect, and neither is the company. But I do firmly believe they are listening. Let’s make sure we’re saying something worth hearing. And remember, while we often refer to “Epicor” as this big abstract entity, it’s made up of real people. People with jobs, opinions, and feelings, doing their best to balance thousands of competing needs. So be kind. Don’t shoot the messenger(s). The more respectful and clear we are, the more likely we are to be heard..
This is just a PSA, don’t turn it into a dumpster fire of ifs, ands and buts. It is just advice, take it or leave it
