Purchase type kanban replenishment - how does it work?

Can anybody share some steps on how to set up purchase kanban? I have read the inventory management guide and attempted to set this up, but I am still not getting PO suggestions when my warehouse on hand quantity is below the minimum on hand quantity I have set on the part warehouse record, so I am missing something (probably a lot of things). Hoping somebody else has got this working and can provide some hints?

What I have done so far:

Set up a Kanban type of purchase
Assigned the Kanban type on the Part Warehouse record
Set the replenishment minimum on the Part Warehouse record
Double checked current on hand in the warehouse is below that number
Run Generate Suggestions (full regen)
My part doesn’t even appear in the suggestions log.

It looks like you need to designate the PO # and PO Line # for them to generate. I guess it is assuming you have a blanket PO to cover it. :man_shrugging:

Ok I was looking at that but it says the field was optional so I was confused. So you can’t just get a normal PO suggestion that you can turn into a PO? Keeping POs open for thousands of parts just to be able to get PO suggestions doesn’t seem very manageable. Anyway I will try filling it in and see what happens.

That is what it looks like.

Ok I will see if this works then:

Not sure what I was expecting to happen, but I originally created my PO for a quantity of 10000 with 1 line, no due date. Reran suggestions. It didn’t create any releases or update any due dates on the PO so that doesn’t seem to have worked either. I must still be missing something else.

FWIW I have followed the instructions for this and can’t get it to work either. Not sure what I’m missing but I started out thinking the whole thing made sense and now I’m confused.

e: I also tried the new blanket PO thing and couldn’t get that to work either.

Change the line qty to 1.

Nope, still nothing.

The only other thing I can think of to try, is to close the release so there is nothing open. :man_shrugging:

Oh, and look under CHANGE PO SUGGESTIONS :man_facepalming:

I’m looking in time phase, wouldn’t the change suggestion show up there?

I think it should.

So according to support, this functionality can only be used when the source of the demand is a job, not when its a sales order. Doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, I mean, demand is demand??

If you just want to purchase to top-up the primary warehouse for a part, just set the min/max/safety at the Part | Site level

If you want to top up another warehouse from the “main stores” then you would create a manual or automatic replenishment kanban record

The Purchase option is used when you issue a blanket PO number/line to a supplier to purchase/call off quantities against a single PO/Line

I need separate PO suggestions for each warehouse based on individual mins because they are not co-located. So far I have not found a way to drive separate po suggestions to each warehouse.

Hi
If the warehouses are in separate physical locations (i.e. not at the same address) then it sounds like you need to implement Multi-Sites. Then you can purchase from one site and then use consolidated purchase orders

Obviously that’s the way it should have been done. But it wasn’t, for reasons. So here we are.

If you can’t go down the multi-site route then you would probably have to look at a process whereby you accept all the PO Suggestions and convert to PO’s and then (with the assistance of a dashboard) add/change the Line/Release warehouses manually

Right, that isn’t the problem I am trying to solve. Right now there is no visibility to know THAT a purchase needs to be made by a given warehouse, because the PO suggestion is only generated when the site falls below its min. That obscures the fact that a given warehouse is low.

I can build custom dashboards all day long, I was just trying to figure out if it was possible to change what suggestions were getting generated. It seems I cannot.
