In manufacturing we’ve always used QC checklists, and when we started using Epicor we put these checklists on the traveler in the comments on a given operation. Techs then sign off on the traveler to complete required checks. This has worked pretty well over the years, but it would be nice if the sign off was captured electronically so we don’t have to keep the printed travelers. Also, some parts don’t have a job so there is no traveler so no checklist(but we want one for incoming inspection)…
As far as I know QC checklists are a pretty standard thing in a manufacturing environment. How do others solve these problems, or do you have any recommendations?
In many cases the storage of the job travelers must be maintained for a period of time. What we did was scan and file them using partid-jobid and then attached them to the job header before closing the job. Then the hard copies were shredded.
This was the responsibility of the project manager. If the customer did an audit, we could show them the directory or the linkage in Epicor. Always passed because we had copies of the original sign-offs.
We intend to use a UD table to log the check/spec items. Linked by job number and items for checkoff based on, in our case, product type and machine it’s running on.
