Question on Data Fields

The app is a jungle of unrelated (to FKV writes) code. It also has a sub for getting data from a 3rd party db via odbc that will fail if someone else tries to use at their site. We've moved that data to a ud table so I'm scheduled to revise the app anyway.Â
I'll strip out the non-essential stuff (to FKV data writes) & share.
Rob

Hey Rob, how about uploading your app to the files area of this users group? I know I would be interested in seeing your solution and I'd bet there are a lot of others who would also like to know how its done.

I'll keep that in mind and if I ever need to do that I'll ping you.

There is no way to write to a FKV. All FKV's are read only.

I've never heard of it not working in a calc, though.

I have set up a FKV in the Sales Order Form to bring in the Part's Net
Weight. When I look at any of the fields brought in FKV (including the
number fields) they are all marked set as Read Only. Is there any way
to change them to not be read only?

It appears that if the field is Read Only it will not work if you try to
use it in a calculation.

Hi Gene,

There is (as long as you haven't set up security roles for these users that strictly prevent them from editing the data - or accessing the BO methods to do so), but do you really want sales people editing part (material planning/engineering/inventory control and cost) related data from sales entry?

If you think it is appropriate, email me and I'll give you some code that will execute on application start up to make specific fields read/write. (You will be changing the default properties of these data fields via a pretty simple & handy SetExtendedProperties subroutine...)

Rob
