Question on edge agent for kinetic 2023.2 web browser

dashboard error in 2023 in test environment. OK to run epicor edge agent for windows? why do I need this also?

The dashboard is probably a ‘classic’ UI item instead of a Kinetic one, if so needs the edge agent to launch it.

nobody else has heard of this epicor edge agent for the new web based kinetic?

It’s OK to install. We have it on our machines here. Does exactly what it says - provides a gateway for the browser/Kinetic to talk to your local resources (especially printers if you’re using client print).

great thanks a lot appreciate the info.

I usually see this error when a menu item doesn’t have a URL path. One way or another that’s fixable unless it’s a classic only thing.

When it is menu URL related, the error fires when the remote service fails to launch a desktop session on your machine via edge agent. This pleases me, for I am a curmudgeonly grouch about the internet staying in the browser’s sandbox and not RCE’ing on my 127.0.0.1 lawn. /yells at cloud

Anyway, it’s kind of a clumsy error. Sometimes the workaround failing isn’t the problem we want to know about. Fixing the menu URL or updating a classic dashboard almost always gets the thing working on the web client, which is usually what we were expecting to happen when we got the error.
