Quick question regarding suggestions in job manager. We have a make to stock job that is for 90pc of a part. We also have a rework job for 5pc of a part. However, we are getting a suggestion to cancel the job for 90, and add 55pc to the rework job. This type of suggestion normally doesn’t happen as the stock job does cover the requirement. Note that our minimum on hand is currently set to 40 for this part.
Thanks!
Our question is why doesn’t the stock job for 90 not cover the demand? Why does it want us to cancel the job for 90 and increase the quantity on a different job.
The reverse could happen to where it says to cancel the 5 and reduce the 90 to 60.
All the system is trying to do is make the shop more efficient. Instead of having 2 jobs with 2 setups, it is suggesting you to have 1 job with 1 setup. Especially if you don’t have any multiple set for the part.
It did not show in the Job Manager, but your answer is right in the time phase. The RW job has an earlier Due date, so that is why it is choosing that one.
Interesting, when looking at both jobs in job tracker they both show a due date of 10/31. Could this literally be a situation of them both being due but at different times on the same day?
Quick tip to avoid this sort of thing with Rework jobs, enable the Lock Qty option on the Job, MRP then will not attempt to change that job qty… and to be fair if the Job is rework you probably cannot change that qty.
Then any suggestions around it will still follow the Planning Parameters.
Don’t forget that Demand is a three legged stool if any leg is missing you don’t have demand and MRP is working with that demand point as a whole, not in parts:
There are several dates on the Job Header.
-Req Date - the Demand Date - this is what MRP is trying to meet
-Due Date when the whole job is scheudled to be finished. If this doesn’t match the Req Date MRP may try to make other adjustments to meet the Req Date.
