Anyone want to enlighten me on why we can’t specify a revision for a material in a quote?

Tag me all you want!!
I’m assuming that you mean when building out a method in a Quote?
Yes, when building out a method I was hoping to be able to specify a rev of the material in the rev field.
Does that material have Track Inventory by Revision checked off?
10.2.500
Than no.
So I need to check that box to be able to use the rev field in the quote?
And in the Engineering Workbench too
So I can’t use the rev field in quote or engineering workbench until kinetic and until they released the inventory by rev functionality?
Am I understanding that right?
You are correct though in Kinetic I can use rev field when that setting is changed to true, but in 10.2.500 I can’t do anything… so I’m assuming that field was just a future use field for a while then?
Correct. It will populate in the Engineering Workbench based on the already established logic of approved revs with effective dates. You cannot change it unless you turn on track by revision.
Is that check box even in 10.2.500? I thought it first appeared in 10.2.600 or .700?
Either way, that check box came with AUOM but was not implemented at release.
It’s not in 10.2.500, the track by rev field is not in 10.2.500.
Track Inventory by Revision was not added until 2023.2, and even then the base Epicor only has “track” by revision, the “plan” by revision functionality is part of the Advanced Planning and Scheduling module.
You can “use” (i.e. enter a value into) that field, and Epicor will save it, but Epicor will not use that value for anything. In a project from several years ago, we quoted (but did not build) a customization that would use a series of BPMs and custom processes to MAKE Epicor jump based on that, but it was (ahem) messy.
LOTS of people had high-apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes (rubber-tree plant anyone?) when Track Inventory by Revision came out. We’re still hopeful.
Ernie, it appears in 10.2.500 you can’t use the rev field on the material in the quote which is a huge bummer, it just erases whatever you put in there on save.
Just looked that project up, it was on 10.1.500 (Hi @Craig!). I really haven’t played with it since then.
Thanks for verifying Ernie!
@ernie, are you saying that with the track by revision turned on for a part, you can enter a revision but it does not honor it?
If you don’t have the additional module, MRP will not use that field to plan sub-level production or material purchasing.
You’ll only have “track” functionality, which shows you what revisions you have in stock.
I assume that messy request was us…
