Quote Number length

Hi all,

Question of the day is, is it possible to increase the acceptable length of the QuoteHed.QuoteNum field? It seems I can create a quote of 5 digit length but not 6 or longer.

We are wanting to standardize quotes and their revisions. In duplicate quote, I want to make the quote number the same as the parent quote and append 001, 002, 003 and so on the the new quote number…

Thanks,
Chris

The quoteNum is an int field. I guess you could multiple by 1000 and add 1. Would this potentially cause an issue in the future? How does Epicor get next quote num? would your change break this?

Somebody else on the list suggested:

Create a UD field for the Revision. Use the Parent Quote field on the QuoteHed to link each revision to the first quote. Epicor will still issue a new QuoteNum for each quote but you’ll be able to see which are linked and concatenate the Parent Quote and the Revision to get the result you wish.

Thank you. We actually are already doing just as you stated. They would just “like” to see related quotes all grouped similarly such as Parent=12345, Rev1 = 12345001, Rev2 = 12345002, Rev3 = 12345003 and so on.

Chris

And where would you “like” to put it…er…where would they “like” to see it?

Dashboards?
Printed Quote?

Mark W.

Both actually. I’ve created capacity dashboards where at the beginning quote level, they take the line that would require the longest time to manufacture, I gave them UD fields for proposed ship date, mfg time, wire time, procurement time, etc. I calculate all of this out showing dates for when they need to start drawings, end drawings, procure parts, begin and end assembly, etc to meet the ship date. IF those dates fit well within our other capacity dashboards (populated previously from the same) then the green light to get a PO is given. Orders are created which copy these UD fields, a final review of the dates on another dashboard happens, green light then the dashboard writes those dates to the related jobs and everything begins.

With that being explained, I need to make sure we are always working from the correct quote and then it was noticed that the quote numbers could be all over the place thus the request to normalize them.

Thanks,
Chris

At the last Epicor meeting (Uk) I went to back in the Summer, they now produce a standard Extension for quote revisions, this was demonstrated and looked quite capable.

For Epicor 10? That’s interesting. Yet another reason for us to upgrade … eventually.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi

Yes Epicor 10, it’s one of the most common things asked for by customers

If you have docstar, you could setup your APR to print the quote to PDF and attach it to the quote. Then when you change the quote, it will continue to do this but create a new version.

So technically you don’t have the revision history data in Epicor, but you can see the quotes exactly as they were in previous versions relative to the printed form.

Great idea but I don’t think DocStar works with E9, which I think they’re on - based on the forum this question is in.

Mark W.

Correct. Yes, we are on E9.

AndyGHA,

Does it do true revisioning such as check in/check out?

Thanks,
Chris

Oops, I missed the forum Topic

I still like the idea @mchinsky. May just borrow it myself…

Thanks!

I will try and find out the details

That would be great. Thank you

Hi
Maybe this will be helpful.Quote Revisions Sales Sheet-ES0101.pdf (410.2 KB)

So this looks like an offering from the Epicor Extended Solutions group. I assume that means it’s not a part of the current product offering, is it? Will it work for SaaS users?

Mark W.

I dont see why not
