I have a simple report to print the partbin and partnumber, desc, etc.

I first grouped on the partbin and set it to print once. This is fine.

Now I want to start a new page every time the first letter of the
partbin changes.

I figured I needed to make a user defined formula to "drop" or "strip"
or somehow ignore the balance of the characters. But of course I'm
unable to determine the correct function or command to acheive this.

Any pointers out there? Troy? Sarah? Santa?

Thanks in advance!!

FirstLetterBinNum

substring(BinNum,1,1)

First Group by FirstLetterBinNum (Reset Page)
Then Group by BinNum

SUBSTRING(PartBin.BinNum,1,1) will return the first character in the bin
number.

Hi Rick,

Here's what I would do:

Create a calculated field called FirstLetter with a calculation of:
(SUBSTRING(BinNum,1,1)

Then create a sort and group by FirstLetter. This sort should come before
your PartBin sort. Under the Attributes for the FirstLetter Group, click
the 'Reset Page' option. Email me if you have questions.

HTH,

Sarah
