Re-install without CD/DVDS or maintenance

Found the CD with Epicor and OpenEdge, and was fortunate to find the updates, luckily left them on the server.

Here is the response from the Epicor technical support team:

"If you have mis-placed your original DVD installation media or it is lost, you will need to contact your Epicor Account Manager, ( ) to obtain a replacement copy. Unfortunately, Technical Support is unable to distribute full copies of the DVD Media. Sorry."

Our maintenance is currently expired with Epicor. In disaster preparedness, I'm not able to locate the media to re-install 803.408B, and have mis-placed the OpenEdge 10.1B install.

We have the control codes for 10.1B and the Licenses for 803.408B, but Epicor says that we cannot download them or access the media since our maintenance has expired.

What to do?

Thanks,

some sort of an image based backup of the server
and current db backups on a network share or offsite

While you can't do it with OpenEdge, it is possible to use a service pack
for Vantage 8.03 to install it. So as long as you have a service pack, you
could technically get it re-installed.

The install of Vantage doesn't actually make any writes to the registry, and
the Service packs are just a massive self-executing Zip file, so once you
create the mfgsys.ver file and a couple other text files, you should be able
to get a system up and running after some editing of .pf files and .ini
files manually and manually creating the DBs and Appservers in OpenEdge.

OpenEdge is a completely different story though, not sure what you can do
without the media. I'd see what you can find out in the world on torrents.

Also, this is why anyone and everyone should own a couple large external USB
drives to store .iso or folder copies of every bit of software you purchase,
cds and dvds can easily get lost or scratched. I do this for pretty much
every CD that ever crosses my desk, but once in awhile I do miss one and
unfortunately am dealing with a similar thing with Pinnacle Software where I
lost my install DVD of their Studio 11 software to go with my USB AV device
when I moved, and they won't provide me with any support other than telling
me to purchase the newer version of their software.

Our maintenance is currently expired with Epicor. In disaster preparedness,
I'm not able to locate the media to re-install 803.408B, and have mis-placed
the OpenEdge 10.1B install.

We have the control codes for 10.1B and the Licenses for 803.408B, but
Epicor says that we cannot download them or access the media since our
maintenance has expired.

What to do?

Thanks,

I’m assuming getting back on maintenance is out of the question? Not intending to be snarky, but this is one of the reasons to “suck it up” and pay. Duct taping together a failover server installation for a critical enterprise software asset that has tentacles into every department in the organization sounds like a recipe for disaster in of itself; no pun intended.

Or, for those of you who are contemplating not renewing your maintenance this year, this is a good reminder to start downloading now! ;-)
