Record in use

Actually it is a programming fix, but only if you have source code.

There are a number of ways to deal with this situation programmatically,
and the approach you choose will depend on decisions that were made a
design time.

Not much help here, but it might be something to raise as an enhancement
request.

Is there any way to avoid being dumped from Vantage when a user attempts
to access a record that is in use? A message appears that appears to
give you the option to cancel and wait for the record to be available,
yet when the second user chooses this option Vantage closes and we have
to disconnect the user using mprshut.exe
That is annoying, I agree. If you wait, than when the record becomes
available, it will let you into it, but who can just sit and wait. And if,
you click cancel, Vantage exits, but it DOES re-open immediately after it
closes. It sounds like maybe you're users are not waiting for it to
re-open?

Lisa,

We've been having this problem since 3.0 and we're on 5.0 now. We don't get it all the time, just occasionally. I haven't found a way to stop a user from being kicked out when this happens. I agree with Sarah that usually the users don't wait for the logon screen to pop back up and click on the Vantage icon again. Then that's when I have to run down to the server and take them out with Promon. Perhaps one of the versions or patches will solve this problem

I think when a program boots you out when you do not want to be you have a
problem. When I called support on this I was told this is an added feature.
They have no plans of fixing it.

I know, I'm behind again, but just wanted to add something to this thread:

When that box pops up, it tells you who is using the record (Record in use
by Lydiac on 41, for example).
Call the person using the record, ask them to close that screen (90% of the
time, they're done anyhow) -then POOF! The message disappears. You are
good to go.

This IS a feature. Record locking is a good thing. It keeps me from
changing something at the exact same moment someone else is changing it,
thus creating a mess in the database. Believe me that you don't want to
exist in a complex database without it.

I do agree, though, that there ought to be a way to just exit that screen or
module gracefully, not dump you unceremoniously out of Vantage. That is
probably a Progress fix, though.

Lydia
