Renumbering GL accounts

Hello all,

We have a pretty simple question but can't find a way to do it: my
controller wants to know if it's in any way possible to
rename(renumber) old GL accounts while keeping their history intact.
Due to a bad setup created long ago we are almost out of numbers (our
accounts go from 0100...0999) and he would like to rename things like
the current 0110 to 1110, for example. He doesn't want to just create
new accounts and transfer the balances over because he wants to keep
the history with that exact account. It seems like this should be
allowed in the system but it doesn't appear possible to us.

Nope you can't but for for some $$$$ Epicor has written a program to do
this as long as you are in version 6.1...don't know if they ever did it
in 8.xx.

I remember asking for this for another company.

This was one of the primary reasons when we upgraded to 8.0 from 6.1, we
started with a fresh installation so we could restructure our GL
Departments & Chart numbering system to allow us the flexibility to grow
in the future.



We still keep our 6.1 database as an archive so we can maintain our
history.
