Good morning Suzanne,

I don't know if you remember me or not, so I attached the previous items we
have discussed. Last year I used the inventory system to do our counts but
I did not use the auto select button. We have set up our ABC codes etc.
This year I would like to use the Inventory Count as it was set up to be
used vs. manually entering part numbers to be counted.
My problems is, when I use the "Auto Select" button within the count entry
area, Vantage give me parts with 0 in stock. If I choose to limit the count
to 25 parts the system will only give me 2 tags to count since the remaining
parts it auto selected has 0 in stock. I understand Vantage's cycle
counting is working off the Count date in the system and these parts with 0
qty have no count date.

Am I making any sense to you? Is there a way to fix this situation or work
around it? At this time I am entering the 0 qty parts (Add Tag) to give it
a count date, but that means these items will show up again.
Are you running into this problem? If this doesn't make sense, is it ok to
give you a call? You have been to best help in the past!
FYI - we are finally on 4.0 and the latest patch!
Have a great day! Thanks! Kimberly

I can't offer help on the report you're looking for, but we have set up the
ABC Codes and have been cycle counting for awhile. Of course you must first
set the levels that each code will represent and how often that level should
be counted. I'm not sure if you are asking for help in how to set the codes
or not, if so feel free to give me a call, I'd be happy to talk to you about
it. Once the codes are set, you need to run the "Calculate ABC Codes" under
General Operations. You can choose to manually enter your ABC codes if you
wish or put a minimum code on a part regardless of what the levels are set
in the ABC Codes Master. Vantage has the option to Auto Select parts for a
count based on the ABC Code Master or again, you can manually enter the
parts to count or use a combination of the two. My problem with Vantage's
Cycle Counting is it ignores items with a zero balance. It will not include
these items in an auto select and even if you manually enter the part, once
you generate your tags, it throws out anything with a zero balance. As
Inventory Manager I am just as concerned to verify a zero balance as I am
any other quantity. So far the only way I have found around this is to
enter the zero item as a tag after all other tags have been generated. The
problem here is not knowing which items have a zero balance. We have around
5000 - 6000 parts in our part master, it makes if difficult to go through
and find the zeros in any kind of a timely or efficient manner. I can't
imagine those folks with a larger part master. Once the tags are generated,
you can print Vantage's tags, which gives three items to a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet
of paper. Since I am in favor of saving trees, I've created my own Cycle
Count Worksheet in Report Builder to use to do the physical count. Entering
the counts is fairly easy. I find the Variance Report in Vantage very
difficult to read, so again I've created my own. The problem with my report
is the items with a zero on hand still get lost. You also have the option
to Void a tag. I've tried this a couple of times, but it has still posted
the tag, so I stay away from it now. If for any reason I decide a part
shouldn't be posted with this batch, I enter the Vantage on hand quantity as
the counted quantity and make sure that whatever problem there is is cleared
up and the part Cycle Counted again as soon as possible.

I hope I've helped without boring you to death!
