Schedule alternating jobs on one resource

Hello, I’m new to Epicor and have been trying to understand the MRP scheduling system.

We have an ask to be able to schedule multiple jobs to our 1 resource (a cutting machine) so that they alternate back and forth. From what I understand there are multiple ways to split a job’s load. I have yet to see a way to have the scheduler swap between jobs, is there a way to do so?

For example: Jobs A and B are due the same date and have the same priority, both need to use the PROCUT resource which we have one of. When the scheduler is run we want the split as ABABAB. Both are completed on time sharing the resource.

Currently the scheduler is returning AAABBB when finite scheduling or double booking when infinite scheduling (which I believe is intentional). I think it is always trying to complete the job before moving to the next one but can’t confirm that. Any ideas or advice on managing this limited resource’s schedule?

Welcome @JMeyer !!

I do not believe that there is anything in the system that will provide what you are asking for.

That said, if you have the Advanced Planning & Scheduling module, you could always batch those two jobs together for that operation.

With batching jobs the operations have to be the same correct? The documentation states that we could get undesirable results if they are not similar.

When batching jobs, you select which operations to batch. They have to be consecutive, but you can just batch a single operation. Which is what I would do in your situation.
