Send an email to a Customer Contact

Just in case this occurs with someone else.
I found this thread describing my email issue almost exactly.

http://erp.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/epicor-l/smtp-global-alert-3676709

And this is and SBS Exchange 2003.
So my guess is it probably looks like it is set up correctly but really isn't working.
Now the fun part will be getting the admin to look at it again.
They were convinced it is totally an Epicor issue.

Hi All

I have tried following these instructions from the help screen ...

1. Right-click
in the Ship To / Contact field, and select Email.
2. An email
window appears, where you can send information directly to the contact.

But the 'Email' button is greyed out.

Does it need enabling somewhere?

Which email address will these emails be sent from?

Will they appear in the correct outbox?

Thanks,

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
If the Vantage User record does not have an email address, the option to send emails will be unavailable.

I remember having to set up the SMTP server info in two places in Epicor: in Company config system tab, and in the client config file default.mfgsys. Never figured out why the different places.

Brian.

What would you check if only email with external addresses were failing in Vantage?
Email using internal addresses still work OK.

The SMTP server is Exchange on SBS and there is a Watchguard firewall.
The current administrator inherited this problem & hasn't had much luck identifying the cause.

Examples:
I can send an email if the contact address is for the local domain - me@...
Email fails if the contact has an external email address - me@...

On your Exchange server you need to create a new Receive Connector under Server Configuration / Hub Transport. This connector is to allow anonymous relays. Under authentication you would only select TLS and Externally Secured. Under Permission Groups you would only select Anonymous users and Exchange Servers. Under Network you would enter the IP address of your Vantage server only so that no other computer could use your server for anonymous relaying.

If you send an email in this way, where does it get saved?

Thanks.

Thanks Steven.
I know your instructions should have worked.
Unfortunately Vantage email to external addresses is still a problem.

I've run out of things to try & I have an open call with Epicor & so far they are stumped too.

I'd welcome any ideas. This is 8.03.409C - Progress.

When I send an email from any client form (Customer Tracker, Order Entry, etc...) The mail appears to be routed to the domain server for the "To" address instead of using the SMTP server specified in Vantage - Company config and xxx.mfgsys files.

I would expect this:
- Client send --> local SMTP server ---> gmail SMTP ---> me@...
But it looks like it is doing this:
- Client send --> gmail SMTP server ---> me@...

The exchange admin temporarily allowed relaying directly from the clients IP address. With this in place the emails to external addresses would succeed.

He's convinced there is something wrong with the Vantage setup.
I can't find anything in Company config or the xxx.mfgsys files (server and client). I also made sure that the extension .mfgsys is associated with MfgSys.exe.

Thanks
