Separating the appserver from the database

Scott,

Thanks so much for the response. To date, tech support has indicated
that separating the appservers from the database is not possible. I
will contact them today to specifically request this document.

I sat next to a guy at lunch during Perspectives who indicated that his company solved a lot of Vantage performance and stability problems by moving the appserver and the database to separate hardware boxes. As I am not a Vantage system admin, I took note of the suggestion but did not get the guy's card.

Now I understand that configuring the appserver and the databases on separate boxes may be a bit tricky (or impossible) and our sys admin wants more information. Anyone out there with any experience with such a configuration, or did I misunderstand what was said?

If I am lucky, perhaps the guy I sat next to is monitoring this list.

Thanks,
Michael Thompson
Call Technical Support and ask for the Implementing Separate Appservers
document and any others they can offer.

I sat next to a guy at lunch during Perspectives who indicated that his
company solved a lot of Vantage performance and stability problems by moving
the appserver and the database to separate hardware boxes. As I am not a
Vantage system admin, I took note of the suggestion but did not get the
guy's card.

Now I understand that configuring the appserver and the databases on
separate boxes may be a bit tricky (or impossible) and our sys admin wants
more information. Anyone out there with any experience with such a
configuration, or did I misunderstand what was said?

If I am lucky, perhaps the guy I sat next to is monitoring this list.

Thanks,
Michael Thompson
