Serial Tracked Parts

We have the same situation here. What we are doing is not using Subcontract Shipment Entry, which requires you to attach the serial numbers when you generate the paper work.
We send a copy of the purchase order with the parts and the PO doesn't ask you to attach the serial numbers to it.

We are on 8.03.408B (Progress) and have a situation that I was wondering
if anyone else has a work around for. We have some parts that are set
up as serial tracked as they need serial numbers assigned at the end of
the manufacturing process before they go to stock and are shipped to
customers, the issue is that these parts can have subcontract operations
and when you try to ship them to the subcontractor it wants to know what
serial numbers are being shipped to the subcontractor and the numbers
haven't been assigned yet?

We would appreciate any insight anyone may have in this regard.

Thanks!

Vantage 8.03 serial numbering is much more restrictive than previous
versions. Any transaction for a serialized part must include the serial
number. The only way around this is to assign a separate number to the
stocked part that is not serialized then issue the part to the serialized
part number after receipt from subcontract.

Place a suffix on the part in the subcontract operation making. (i.e.
-Sub) then you can process without serial number tracking. The Sub
contract transactions will be under another part ref though
