Service Only Orders w/o using Field Service Module - Vantage 8.0

Maybe Mark meant to say uncheck the quantity-bearing flag.

We did not purchase the "Field Service Module" but have a need to
occassionaly (3-4 times a year) enter service only orders. These are
orders where we provide a service to our customer without any materials
or jobs being involved. Other than creating a "Service" part in the
part master and adding it as a line item, is there a way to enter a
service only sales order?

We have tried to enter the sales order with just a misc. charge but it
will not show up on the Sales Order Acknowledgement without a line item.

We just went live last week and today received a request for service
that is due next week so this is a high priority for us.

Thanks in advance for any help.

We too have the same issue. We occasionally have a customer that wants to
send in a separate P.O. for a tooling charge. As you mentioned, it can not
be a miscellaneous charge without a line item. Keep in mind before you add
"service" as a part in the part master, you would have to add inventory to
that "service" part number in order to create a packing slip and invoice.

Not knowing another work around we just enter a miscellaneous invoice
without creating a sales order.

Thanks for the tip on the Misc. Invoice. We will most likely use
that for other customers. The problem is that on the order that is
due next week, the customer requires copies of the sales order as
acknowledgment of receipt of their order. It seems that they want
proof that we have received & entered their order into our systems.

We understand that if we enter the "Service" into the part master we
will have to create inventory. We were just hoping that there was
another way around this issue.

Thanks again for your help.

If you marked the part as non-stocking, wouldn't that remove that issue?

Mark W.
If you create a packing slip, the part "Service" would have to pull from
somewhere. Non-stock would need a job to pull from.

Have you considered miscellaneous charges? We used to use Part numbers
to bill our service, but zeroing out the part number every month is a
PITA.

So instead we are considering using miscellaneous charges on a Sales
Order to show our time and material billing. I'd love to get eh Field
Service module, but right now I cannot justify the expense.

We tried Misc. Charges on the Sales Order but they will not show up
on the Sales Order Acknowledgement without a line item. We also
tried to set the line item for a Misc. Charge and it would not appear
on the Acknowledgement unless we had a part number.

We indeed create jobs for service work and use a non-stocking part to ship
against. We create a sales order and link the order to the job. We make sure
that we change the Product Type on the order line so that the sales dollars go
to the correct account (Repair or Warranty as necessary). Since it's on an
order, you can print an acknowledgment. The order gets shipped and invoiced
like any other order. We close the job and the Production Detail Report shows
us how much we made - or didn't make. We've been using this system for a year.

My main reply was that it is quite possible to create a part in the item
master without messing with inventory quantities on your version of Vantage
(Non-Stock = True; Quantity Bearing = False).

Mark W.
Mark,

Thanks for the tip on Quantity Bearing=False. I haven't noticed that field
before. That opens many opportunities for improvement for us.
