Share domain across servers

Nancy,

Reinstalling is not necessary. If the Vantage server is under-
configured, it shouldn't be made into a BDC either.

If the server cannot properly join the domain, there may be a
problem in the WINS database, the LMHOSTS file or any of a
number of other areas. This can be fun to troubleshoot, but the
first thing to do is remove the new server from the domain,
using Server Manager at the console of the existing PDC.

Reboot both servers, then go to the new server and attempt to
join the existing domain.

have fun,
john

ps - "tia" = "thanks in advance"
requesting suggestions from NT 4.0 system managers on the following...

Currently moving Vantage V3 to new server prior to upgrade to V4.
Old and new server have identical network setting except of IP address
and name.
Both servers use NTFS file system.
New server will not recognize users and groups set at original server
unless they are added manually thru user manager - only then can users
have access to new server.
Can manually select user manager on new server, select desired domain
to view and edit users/groups originated on old server.
Cannot force new server to recognize domain as default.

old server is set-up as primary domain controller, new server
is set-up as server.

in ctrl panel/network/identification/change , cannot change new
server from member of group to member of domain.
old server shows new server as domain member.

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated on how to
set up new server to join old server domain properly. tia
Tia,
Have you gotten any information yet? I do believe the only way around this
is to reinstall your Operation system NT4 on the new server. You need to
make it a BDC, especially if you have no BDC and you will be removing the
old server (PDC).
