We have a question presented by a user and we honestly do not know the answer. Can resource groups be shared between sites? The reason for asking is the user wants to see what a subcontractor/vendor may have assigned to them. Furthermore, if you alternate suppliers, how does purchasing see the alternates for parts in PO Suggestions? Is there way for them to see them if available based on the approved supplier list?
No, Resource Groups cannot be shared between Sites. Site is one of the key fields for resource groups and resources. You can build MOMs that use other Site’s resources, but that would kick out a transfer requirement.
If you are using the Subcontract shipping functionality, there are reports that will show upcoming shipments and expected return dates.
You would have to test, but I would think that you would need to create price lists for the suppliers. But you might be able to get away with just the approved suppliers by operation.
We were fairly certain that you could not but wanted confirmation on shared resources.
Having said that, basically there no way to see if the same vendor is being used for several jobs at different sites, correct? Or see if there are other approved vendors who could do the same part/subcontract operation.
This all depends on how your systems are set up. Are you using Global Suppliers? If you are, you could easily create a report to see what suppliers are being used for subcontract operations across all of your sites. If you are not using Global Suppliers, you could still get there with a map that equates the like suppliers across sites.
Again, how are your operations, parts, and approved suppliers set up? If you have the same part numbers across sites and the same operations, you should be able to accomplish this with either approved supplier parts or approved supplier operations.
Sorry I can’t give a more concrete answer, there are too many questions about how your environment is set up.
No that completely makes sense. I need to do some research on my side to determine exactly how the suppliers are setup. I do not believe they were setup as global initially because we had a site on the west coast and they used their own suppliers for subcontract work or parts. Our main office is on the east coast so they did the same. Having said that, the site on the west coast was shit down so they had to find new vendors because it was moved to the east coast. So we may want to discuss global suppliers. Thanks for the information. This gives me the answers that I need currently.
