A while back the subject of protecting shop floor PC's from hazardous
environments came up.
If you goto http://www.raritan.com/products_c5r.htmland you will see a
product called "Cat 5 reach".
For $ 545.00 list you can buy a pair of boxes that can be linked with up to
650 feet of cat 5 cable to allow you to place your PC's in an office near
the floor. ( They also have a fiber version that's good for 3,000 feet )
What you end up with is x number of pcs in an office with type 5 wire
running out into your shop where you still have monitors, keyboards, and
mice.
Granted this doesn't protect your monitors, keyboards, and mice but monitors
seem to hold up very well ( they just get dirty ) and keyboards and mice are
cheap these days.
