Slightly off subject

Microsoft makes a product called desktop search which they are bundling
with their Vista product.

However it is available as a free download and will run on WinXP.

You are a very knowledgeable bunch so hopefully you can help me out
here.

We currently use Windows explorer as file storage. We map a networked
drive to a person's computer, create folders, issue privileges and
continue this ant mound type storage. I'm looking for a program that
will allow us to have a maybe a GUI front, easy search etc. Something
other than using Explorer. Is anyone familiar with any application that
might help?

Thanks

Nick Robinson

Troublemaker...

Nick,

If you think you might move to Epicor's Portal, it's based on Microsoft's
SharePoint services. The services come free with any version of Windows Server
2003 but there's also a the Portal version that cost some $$$.

Both Microsoft and Epicor are looking to use more SharePoint services. The
Epicor Portal does and Office 2007 will. In fact, you'll be able to Open and
Save files right from SharePoint.

SharePoint is basically a web site foundation that let's you create a site.
Epicweb is built on this technology so you know how the security works. You
can set up sections of the site by project teams and people can check-out and
check-in documents.

So if you're not moving to OS/X you may want to check it out.
