SSRS Performance After Report Generated

Hey Folks,

Running into an issue where SSRS reports are taking some time to run. In digging into the System Monitor timings, and comparing the “History Tasks” and the “Reports” tabs, we’re seeing cases where the timings on the “Reports” tabs are adding significant amounts of time. This is especially noticeable in cases where a given simple report like a tag generates quickly (1-2 seconds) but it takes a fair bit of time to come out of the printer (5-30 seconds).

In this case, the client and the server are in different states. Is it fair to say that the LAN performance is responsible for this time, or are there other factors that can influence the time it takes a report to print and/or preview after its been generated?

Brad

I think it’s fair to blame the LAN, especially if you are just printing to client printers. We have reports take that long to print, and the machines are in the same building (being on wifi doesn’t help). There’s a good post about client v server printing you can check out if you haven’t already: Let's talk about SSP (server-side printing)
