Switching from manufactured to purchased

We have done this on some items, and found no real problems. The costing is
average so it really is the cost we had. The jobs don't know the difference
because they are still stocked items.

Subject: [Vantage] Switching from manufactured to purchased

To all,
Have any of you faced the need to farm out something that you
normally make? What changes need to be made other than flipping the
Purchased / Manufactured switch?

Some of our concerns are:
1. How will this affect jobs that call for the manufactured (now
purchased) item?
2. Are there any costing issues we need to be aware of?
3. Any other concerns?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Andrew

Andrew,

We have done this from time to time. If you are on Average costing rather
than last, watch your inventory pricing. It could retain the labor and
burden from previously manufactured parts that were in stock.

Also the original raw material and the total purchased price will be
averaged. This can cause some real problems in job costing when the parts
are issued to the job.
