Tracking non-job activities

We do a monthly job for a variety of activities. Some for generic
'service' work, some for large maintnenance projects. We like this
because we can send purchase orders to the job (especially in the case
of maintenance projects). For 'service' work we simply ship and
invoice. For maintenance type activities you could do a phantom part
number, set up a class to get it to the ledger where you want it to
appear. The part number could be non-quantity bearing, non MRP flagged
etc...

Check out indirect time.
You can set up one that is a default for whenever someone is punched in
but
not working on a job. Key is that if you are punched into indirect, I
believe you only can be punched into one type. You can't be doing
maintenance and cleaning at the same time.

Try indirect labor reporting.
Going by memory: I believe you can set predetermined reason codes to
differentiate what you want to track over time (and where cost will go
if
your using payroll).

Subj:[Vantage] Tracking non-job activities

Is anyone out there capturing non-job related time? For instance,
maintenance and shop improvement?

Our thought was to create a monthly job to have people job-in to and
expense
it out each month. Any recommendations for something different? Any
suggestions?

Thanks,
Ken

Good Day Ken :

We have a default job#. If they do not punch in on a Job, there time
goes to the default.

If you want more granular reporting, then you will have to create a
'Task" number for them to punch in on.

Ken,

Vantage 8.03.408A

Currently not running MES, but collect data via manual Job Cards. We have a list of Indirect Codes that are used for non-job related time. We capture things like Machine Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Cleaning, Meetings, etc. Have went as far as to create a special Resource Group for each department. The option is to claim Indirect Time against maybe a specific machine (Machine Maintenance) or, if it is something like a meeting the time can be claimed against the special RG. We then have a BAQ Report for Indirect Labor and can be run by Employee ID, Indirect Code, Department or Resource Group ID.

This has been beneficial to supervision and management, especially since they can see how much non-job related time is spent for any given time period.

At a previous employer (back in 8.00.XX) we used Data Collection in the same way. As I believe someone mentioned, you can only be in one Indirect entry at any given time. The nice thing about Data Collection (MES) is that when not clocked into a Job or Indirect the time gets dumped into a catch-all account. Now you really see how much time is non-productive.
