I know this is CPQ adjacent topic, but don’t worry even non-CPQ users could have input.
We are curious about the ability to either clone a Part on the Fly with it’s MoM into a manufactured part or even the ability to turn a Part on the Fly into a Manufactured part.
Let me set the stage:
We use CPQ for most of our products, being a signage business every line item will have some form of customization on colors/materials. Sometimes after the CPQ generates its nice Part on the Fly with nicely formulated MoM, the customer may become a large customer and do a lot of re-ordering of the same sign. Large Hospital campuses will want to have the same door sign throughout their buildings but may start the project in one wing. It would be great if after the CPQ does its thing and we recognize the potential for re-order that we can turn that Part on the Fly into a saved Manufactured part that can be easily re-ordered.
Our implementation team told us we can’t copy Part on the Fly into a saved part, but I am curious if there is perhaps a work around.
I don’t know what happens if you try and use the same part number as the POTF- I’m not adding anything to the convo, sorry, just curious if the ERP get’s upset if you try and use a part that used to be a POTF with part tran history and all.
We are aware we can duplicate quotes, but for longer term situations it might be nicer to have a full manufactured part number for better overall tracking and ease of re-orders for smaller single line re-orders.
That would require a change to your configuration practice and most likely configurable part items. My company sells boat trailers and they start with a base configurable part that can be templated or copied but lists as a standard part number. Costing is done by lots tied to the Job#.
How would I go about making a configurator part into a template? I am assuming you mean a Kinetic Configurator not a CPQ configurator, is that correct?
I can’t seem to find where to make my part into a template. I was assuming it would be in Quote Line Engineering, please let me know if I am in the wrong area.
I have missed something in the description of the problem but you can create a part and then pull in the details, MOM, from a template Job. This should allow you to create an engineered part that is the part-on-the-fly with a MOM. This is also available for template Quotes as well.
I agree with @bruce6s Because you have run a job, which has the methods, notes, etc. for the product that your customer likes, you need to check the box on the job as a template
Create a part number which is a manufactured part
Create a revision
Pull the method into to the revision for the customer’s sign.
