Two shift company calendar; 15 or 16 hours?

To expand on what Charlie said, he does have a good point, don't peg the
meter on your work center capacity, do schedule them somewhat less than
their maximum rated capacity. You may want to even consider factoring
in work center efficiencies against that 5-15% if you operate in a shop
where there is a constant state of flux or less than lead time items
drop thru etc... you know your business and what would make sense.

Your calendar should reflect how much work you want to schedule. My
general rule of thumb would be 85-90% of capacity. For those
resources/groups that can run unattended, set it to the capacity of the
resource/group. For those that require attendance, set it to the
capacity of the employee.

We have a two shift operation; 8 hours per shift. The workers are given
two 15 minute paid breaks per shift. With two shifts, this adds up to
one hour of work time per day where no work is being done.
Here is my question: Do I set up my company calendar to show 15 hours
per day, or do I set up my calendar for 16 hours per day, and is there a
field somewhere for setting expected labor efficiency?

Labor efficiencies can only be factored into the scheduling algorithm if
you have APS AND you are using capabilities. A lower level swag would
be to modify your calendars to represent current work center
efficiencies, use like a moving 3 month average and adjust it once a
month (or you'll go insane chasing it). Of course this is all really
moot unless your finitely scheduling that work center or work centers
using that calendar.
